  • Anchor

Standing strong next to the iconic Carriage Rock in Kenton-on-Sea, this often overlooked sculpture reminds us of the resilience of the forces at work. Something as delicate as water can chisel away at the toughest of rock, leaving it clinging on to its last anchor.

  • Carriage Rock_02

The iconic ”monument” of Kenton-on-sea. Towering taller than the rest it balances precariously on the edge of land and sea. A true landmark of the area.

  • Decorum

noun: behaviour in keeping with good taste and propriety. I came across this scene on the way to my intended location and was struck by the perfect simplicity in which nature had arranged itself; no trace of human intervention or design.

  • Fortress

This formation, situated on the opposite bank to Kenton, felt spectacularly medieval in construction. Towers, walls and courtyards strategically tucked behind the safety of a moat that is the mighty Kariega river rushing into the ocean.

  • Last light

Mother nature never ceases to surprise: With my camera bag packed and heading back for the evening, I turned around one last time and witnessed this spectacular final act. In a scramble I deployed my gear, fired a shot, looked up…and it was all over. It was the last light.

  • On-the-rocks

A hidden gem of an image, lost in a sea of memory cards and harddrives I recently re-discovered this moment. Like a good whiskey, the timing was perfect and the memory sweet. Cannon Rocks at its finest.

  • Parallels

Amidst the ever changing motions, some repeating patterns remain. Almost like Mother Nature’s signature, consistent familiarity remains in the way she constructs these scenes.

  • Shelter

Caught off guard it was a scramble to cover as a sudden down poor erupted. Purged on the top of a tall hill overlooking the valley below, I experienced a glimpse of what these battered soldiers atop the land must go through season after season.

  • Solace

As the day comes to a close there is comfort in the constant, tidal breath of Mother Nature. The earth is alive, and so are we.

  • Vibrancy

With a swift pounce she almost pulled me in, receding playfully as if to tempt me into lingering longer. Her colours are a verb, energy and life.

  • Voyage

Like the great Bartolomeu Dias I found myself on a voyage of discovery. The destination; the infamous Kwaaihoek, overlooking the cross from the explorer himself. A successful journey to landscapes once unknown.

  • Weathered

As the smoke clears, only the strongest remain. Resilient, beautifully pummelled.
